Ronaldo generated a casual response when asked about the transfer of a former team mate, Angel Di Maria. DiMaria had moved from Juventus to Benfica after just one season.
Though former Madridistas, Ronaldo chose not to comment on the matter due to the historic rivalry between his boyhood club, Sporting Lisbon, and Benfica.
“If you ask me about Sporting, I will answer you. But I will not comment on other clubs,” the 38-year-old Al-Nassr superstar said, as quoted by TCR.
Fans think the reaction was tied to Di Maria settling for Lionel Messi, his Argentine compatriot, as the greatest of all time when asked for his preference given the choices of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi.
Di Maria, who played a significant role in Argentina’s World Cup victory, was rumored to be joining a high-profile players heading to Saudi Arabia. However, he chose to make a comeback to Portugal and signed with Benfica, his former club.
