American singer-songwriter Joe Jonas and actress Sophie Turner have officially concluded their divorce following a challenging year-long process.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the couple has recently reached a settlement, which has been approved by a judge.
While the specific terms remain confidential, it was previously disclosed that Sophie, 28, and Joe, 35, attempted to negotiate child custody arrangements and asset division through mediation.
The couple married in 2019 and share two daughters: Willa, aged four, and Delphine, aged two.
After months of speculation about their separation, Joe filed for divorce in September 2023.
In March, Sophie sought to “reactivate” their divorce proceedings, which had been paused during mediation. However, after failing to reach an agreement, she requested a judge to formally end their marriage and determine custody arrangements.
The mediation aimed to keep their personal matters private, but the filings detailing their disputes will now be made public.
The couple faced significant disagreements regarding the primary residence of their daughters. Sophie wished to move them to her home country, the UK, while Joe preferred to keep them in the United States.
Having a prenuptial agreement likely reduced complications over property division, but they struggled to finalize a custody arrangement. At one point, Sophie filed a child abduction claim against Joe, though she later requested to withdraw it in January, citing that he was violating international laws regarding their children’s travel.
In October 2023, Joe and Sophie established a temporary custody plan after Sophie sued him over his attempts to prevent her from taking their daughters on a long-planned trip to the UK.
Court documents previously obtained by DailyMail indicated that the custody arrangement allowed each parent to spend two weeks at a time with their daughters until January 2024, facilitating travel between the US and the UK.
This arrangement also permitted the children to travel anywhere within both countries, enabling Sophie to bring them to England, which she described as their “forever home.”
While Joe could take the girls on tour with his band, The Jonas Brothers, Sophie celebrated Christmas with them in the UK alongside her family.
The custody agreement was reached after four days of intensive mediation in New York, where the children were staying with Sophie at the time.
The resolution regarding custody was expected to pave the way for finalizing the couple’s divorce. Turner’s attorney, Stephen Cullen, described the mediation as “ongoing and productive,” noting that the custody arrangement was part of an effort to amicably resolve all issues.
Joe filed for divorce in Miami, Florida, on September 1.
